Marula Oil – Mother Nature’s Moisturiser

Marula oil (Sclerocarya birrea) is one of Africa’s finest skin care oils. Rich in antioxidants and oleic acid, marula oil contains essential components for the maintenance of healthy skin.
A natural oil, derived from the nut of the marula fruit, marula oil has traditionally been used as a moisturiser for women and as a baby oil. The mystical marula fruit tree is native to Southern Africa and regarded by many as a sacred tree. Central to local culture, the marula tree cannot be felled without permission from the local chief.

In the northern parts of South Africa, the marula tree plays an integral role in the culture and survival of the local people who eat the fruit in the lean time of the year. The marula fruit has a high Vitamin C content of up to four times that of orange juice and is used to brew traditional marula beer. The marula nut is an important food item from which is derived marula oil.
